NPFL tittle race intensifies

NPFL title race intensifies 22 Aug 2015 2:03 AM After defeating their arch rivals, defending champions, Kano Pillars, 1-0 in Aba on Wednesday, Enyimba moved to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table and are set consolidate their stay on top when they play FC Taraba on Sunday. Enyimba are favourites to get the maximum three against Taraba, who are at the bottom of the table, while the other major title contender Sunshine Stars hope to recover from their 1-0 loss to Dolphins to beat El Kanemi Warriors in Akure in order to keep up with Enyimba in the title race. Third-placed Warri Wolves and fourth-placed Wikki Tourists, who have 41 points apiece, only four points less than Enyimba’s 45, would clash in Warri in their bid to remain in the reckoning for the NPFL title this season. For Pillars, it would be a tricky tie when they host Nasarawa United, considering that Mohammed Baba Ganaru dumped Nasarawa for Pillars less than a month ago. Fans look forward to seeing how Ganaru would fare against his former club, especially after suffering his first defeat against Enyimba since resuming as Pillars coach. In the other games that would be played on Sunday, Lobi Stars, who just made it to the final of the Federation Cup, beating Enugu Rangers 1-0, would be in high spirits when they host FC IfeanyiUbah; while the other Federation Cup finalists, Akwa United, would be up against Giwa FC at the Nest of Champions in Uyo. Rangers will face Dolphins in Enugu; Bayelsa United will lock horns with Sharks; Abia Warriors will face Heartland; while Kwara United would be up against Shooting Stars. Copyright PUNCH.
