AfroBasket: Ugboaja back D'Tiger

AfroBasket: Ugboaja backs D’Tigers 22 Aug 2015 2:04 AM Nigeria international, Ejike Ugboaja, has said the Nigeria men’s basketball team currently campaigning at the 2015 FIBA Africa Championship in Tunisia has what it takes to win the tournament. D’Tigers, who have never won the AfroBasket despite getting to the final of the competition thrice, began their quest with an 88-63 victory over the Central African Republic on Wednesday. Ugboaja, who was a part of the bronze-winning D’Tigers in Antananarivo 2011, believes the players in the team will not rest on their oars after the victory. “D’Tigers have what it takes to win the AfroBasket,” he said. “The players in the team can stand against any other team in Tunisia. They have the strength and zeal to make a record which has so far eluded us.” He agreed that defending champions, Angola, and hosts, Tunisia, may prove to be difficult for the team when they meet but he believes the Nigerians’ mental strength will see them through. He said, “The African game is built on strength and that is what the Angolans and the Tunisians have. “Although most of our players are based overseas and are not too familiar with the African game, their mental strength will see them through tough opponents.” Copyright PUNCH.
