W'chair basketballers set for Ochei tourney

W’chair basketballers set for Ochei tourney 20 Aug 2015 2:44 AM Lagos State Wheelchair Basketball players have expressed their readiness for the forthcoming Victor Ochei Wheelchair Basketball Championship. The players, who were seen training at the National Stadium, Lagos, ahead of the competition billed for September, said they have been training since the beginning of August. The Victor Ochei Wheelchair Basketball Championship is an annual event of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Nigeria. One of the players, Foluke Shittu, said the tournament has given them a sense of belonging, hence their preparations for it. “The competition has made us to know that we can still be active,” she said. “Although we have some other little things we do, sports has been a way of life to us and this competition has brought life to some of us.” Another player, Musa Mohammed, said the battle for the top prize in this year’s edition would be tougher than the previous ones. “We have been training hard for the tournament,” he said. “Although we are yet to know the date, we are prepared to play our hearts out because this sport is now part of our lives.” The tournament, which is in its fourth year, is sponsored by the former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei. President of the WBFN, Bukola Olopade, said last week that the competition would continue.
