The members of the committee set up by the All Progressives Congress to conduct a primary for aspirants seeking the party’s governorship ticket have expressed concerns over their security. A member of the committee, Mr. Chinedu Eluemunoh, expressed the worry of members during the committee’s inauguration in Abuja, on Wednesday. He noted that considering the volatility of the state especially during elections, there was the need for the party’s hierarchy to put in place extra security measures to protect lives and property. Eluemunoh said, “We are worried about the volatile environment where the primary will take place. We are of the hope that adequate security will be provided in the course of discharging our duties.” In response, the National Organising Secretary of the party, Osita Izunaso, allayed the fears. According to him, the Bayelsa State Police Command and other security agencies in the state were capable of nipping in the bud any threat to peace and security before, during and after the exercise. Izunaso also announced that as part of security measures being put in place, the requisite means of identification for all delegates would be the Permanent Voter Card, passport and or the national identity card. He urged the committee members not to accept any other form of identity for the purposes of identifying delegates. Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved.
