Ogun shuts fish depot over filth 20 Aug 2015 5:57 PM The Ogun State Government has ordered the closure of a fish depot in Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta North Local Government Area for failure to comply with the weekly environmental sanitation exercise. The Deputy Governor, Chief Yetunde Onanuga, who gave the order while monitoring the weekly market environmental sanitation exercise in Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South on Thursday, said government would not relent in its effort to ensure that all parts of the state were kept clean. Onanuga, who was in company with the members of the Nigeria Union Journalists, Ogun Information Chapel and the Local Government Transition committee chairmen of Abeokuta North and South LGA, went round markets in the state capital to ensure strict compliance with the environmental sanitation order. During the inspection of the weekly sanitation exercise, The deputy governor visited Lafenwa, Itoku, Iberekodo, and Elega markets all in Abeokuta North LGA and  Adatan Market in the Abeokuta South LGA, where she inspected fish depot, abattoir, sawmill, herbs and the clothe sections in the markets. In an interview with newsmen, Onanuga expressed her delight at the level of compliance at Itoku, Iberekodo, Elega and Adatan markets, but expressed displeasure with the level of non-compliance at the Lafenwa market, where she ordered the immediate closure of a fish depot for contravening the environmental sanitation law of the state. She added that no market should be opened for any form of business activities between the hours of 7am and 10am on Thursday, warning that markets that contravened the order, would be closed down. Chairman, Abeokuta South LGA Transition Committee, Sola Ekundayo and his counterpart at the Abeokuta North LGA, Ibikunle Abayomi, expressed delight at the exercise and promised to ensure that markets in their local governments areas were kept clean at all times.
