Ogun motorists refuse to collect 12,551 driving licenses

Ogun motorists refuse to collect 12,551 driving licences 20 Aug 2015 2:09 PM The Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Adegoke Adetunji, has said motorists, who applied for driving licence have refused to collect 12,551 licences from the motor licensing authority offices in the state. Adetunji said this on Thursday at Kuto Motor Park, Abeokuta, during a sensitisation rally on the process of obtaining the national driving licence. He added that many of those concerned were those who had in their possession the temporary driving licence, which is not a substitute for the permanent one. The sector commander said, “The National Road Traffic Regulations(2012) mandates every driver, be it private or commercial, to have a valid and genuine driving licence before driving on the highways. “It is worth noting that presently, about 12,551 processed licences are in various Motor Licensing Authority Offices uncollected in Ogun State.” Adetunji noted that over 50 per cent of the drivers on the nation’s highways did not have genuine driving licence, adding that this had contributed to incessant road crashes. Addressing commercial drivers at the rally, he reminded them that the FRSC would start enforcing the speed limit rule from September 1. Speaking on the topic, ‘Driving licence as a working document’, the Road Traffic/Vehicle Inspection Officer, Abeokuta, Mr. Taofeek Babalola, advised motorists to ensure that they passed through all necessary tests, and through the right channels to procure their driving licence. In her address, Sector Head in charge of driving licence centre, Ogun State, Joyce Efetie, declared that whoever patronised and obtained his or her driving licence through unauthorised agent would be arrested and prosecuted.
