Iiiegal bunkering: navy threatens to sanction erring officers

THE Nigerian Navy has warned that it will sanction any of its personnel involved in illegal oil bunkering. The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, cautioned that any navy personnel guilty of aiding and abetting oil theft would be treated as an economic saboteur. Ibas issued this warning while addressing officers and men of the NNS Pathfinder in Port Harcourt during his inaugural tour of formations in Rivers State on Saturday. This is just as the he said that the Nigerian Navy destroyed 78 illegal oil refineries across Rivers State in the security outfit’s latest fight against oil theft. He urged any of them involved in oil theft to desist from the act, even as he added that he did not believe that some of them were involved in the illicit act until it was proven. “If you have been party to illegal duties out there, my advice to you from this day is that as I finish addressing you, you should discountenance and dissociate yourselves from such. The Navy will not condone any illegal act out there. I am talking with a particular reference to you aiding and abating crude oil theft.
