Flood destroys crops in nine Jigawa communities 20 Aug 2015 3:56 PM Information Officer, Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, on Thursday said flood has destroyed crops in nine communities in the council. Abdullahi made this known in Dutse on Thursday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria. He listed the villages hit by the flood as Kiyawa, Katanga, Dangoli, Tuje, Rimi, Katuka, Kawari, Gidan-Malu and Balago. He said torrential rainfall recorded in the area in the last two days was responsible for the flooding “As a result of high torrential rainfall and subsequent overflowing of tributaries around the area, flooding occurred, destroying farm produce. “Produce such as maize, sorghum, millet sesame seeds and cowpea were destroyed,” he said. The spokesman said efforts were being made by the council to contain the situation.
